Faculty members from the School of Theology and Ministry and the Theology and Philosophy departments were honored for their publications by the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada at the organization’s annual conference in June.

Stegman, S.J., Joseph Professor of Catholic Systematic Theology Richard Gaillardetz, and STM Associate Professor of the Practice Rafael Luciani were among those honored for their books by the Catholic Press Association.
The Bible and Catholic Theological Ethics (Orbis Books), co-edited by Canisius Professor of Theology James Keenan, S.J., (with Boston College alumni , and Ronaldo Zacharias, S.D.B.), won third place in the category of Scripture: Academic Studies. The volume is a collection of original essays on Catholic Biblical ethics from a global community of Catholic scholars.
Three faculty books earned honorable mention:
Written for Our Instruction: Theological and Spiritual Riches in Romans (Paulist Press) by STM Dean Thomas D. Stegman, S.J., was cited in the Scripture: Popular Studies category. In this book, Fr. Stegman sets forth and makes accessible Saint Paul's Letter to the Romans.
By What Authority?:Foundations for Understanding Authority in the Church (Liturgical Press) by Joseph Professor of Catholic Systematic Theology Richard Gaillardetz was honored in the Backlist Beauty category. In this volume, Gaillardetz writes on the nature and forms of church authority and their relationship to authentic Christian belief and discipleship.
Pope Francis and the Theology of the People (Orbis Books) by STM Associate Professor of the Practice Rafael Luciani was honored in the Pope Francis category. Luciani describes “the theology of the people,” a type of liberation theology that emphasizes respect for the culture and popular religious expressions of the poor.
In addition, part-time faculty member and alumnus Timothy Muldoon earned second place honors for his book, Living Against the Grain: How to Make Decisions That Lead to an Authentic Life (Loyola Press), in the Books for Teens & Young Adults category.
