Albeena Stephen is a doctoral research scholar in cultural studies at the Department of English and Cultural Studies at CHRIST University, Bengaluru, India. Falling within the larger domain of Medical Humanities, she is a graphic medicine scholar. Her doctoral research attempts to explore the visual language within COVID-19 Comics to understand the narrativisation of psychological distress experienced as a counter-result of COVID-19-induced lockdown, isolation, and quarantine. Recipient of the prestigious Doctoral Research Fellowship bestowed by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, her academic journey reflects a profound commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship. Her publications and research interests also expand to the domain of posthumanism, climate fiction, and trauma studies.
She completed her Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in English Language and Literatureat St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam and Sacred Heart College, Kochi, respectively. Transitioningseamlessly into academia, she contributed as a guest faculty at her Master's alma mater beforeembarking on her doctoral studies at CHRIST University. As an awardee of the NationalEligibility Test for Assistant Professor in English, she also serves as a teaching Assistant at herhost university. Moreover, she lends her expertise as a Secretarial Assistant to the esteemedArtha Journal of Social Sciences (AJSS), a revered peer-reviewed academic journal by CHRISTUniversity. Apart from academia, she is a content writer at Humans of Kerala, an online mediastorytelling platform covering inspiring, original, human-interesting stories from diverse facetsof life.
