Remembrances

My dad served with US Navy Patrol Bombing squadron VPB-119 during WWII. VPB-119 and squadron VPB-104 were both stationed at Clark Field, Luzon during the last year of the War. Lt jg Joseph D. Shea was an officer with VPB-104. Lt jg Joseph D. Shea of Waterbury, CT was a patrol plane commander flying PB4Y-1 bombers with Navy Squadron VPB-104 when he and his crew (crew #18) were killed in action on 11 January 1945 on Panay Island, Philippines.

Dave Deatherage

My Dad, Francis Dean, who passed away in September of 2009, flew as an air gunner on the "Kee Bird", VB (later VPB) 103, Fleet Air Wing 7, Dunkeswell, England. ÌýThere is a good book by Alan Carey,ÌýUS Navy PB4Y-1 Liberator Squadrons, that tells the story of these brave men. Ìý

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
We will remember them.
