Reimagining the Globe and Cultural Exchange

From the World Maps of Ricci and Verbiest to Google Earth 

This international symposium on the history of East-West scientific exchange through the medium of cartography, beginning with ancient maps and continuing to the present and the latest technological innovations, was held in 2016. Internationally known specialists in cartography and East-West cultural exchange were invited to share their research, while experts from Google and NASA discussed the technological developments in enriching our knowledge of the world and the cosmos. 

Presented by: Ralph Ehrenberg, formerly Chief of the Geography and Map Division at the Library of Congress; Laura Hostetler, EDS-Stewart Endowed Chair at the Ricci Institute; Stephen Sandford, formerly the NASA Langley Director for Space Technology and Exploration and now Director of Systems Engineering at Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies; and Ed Parsons, Geospatial Technologist of Google and co-chair of the W3C/OGC Spatial Data on the Web Working Group.
