Jenks Leadership Program
From lobster rolls on the Cape to tapas at Tasca, the Jenks Class of 2018 students enjoyed a host of fun workshops and activities this fall. At the Cape, Mr. Winston kicked off the semester with his inspiring stories and lessons for effective leadership, and Father Leo Shea, M.M., talked about his work with the poor and disabled in Jamaica and parts of Africa. The Jenks Student Advisory Council (Jenks alumni still enrolled at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½) shared words of wisdom about the pitfalls they encountered and suggestions for avoiding catastrophes as groups start to plan and implement their service projects. We used the DiSC leadership personality assessment and each student's initial project idea to form more cohesive service learning project groups. Dean Boynton entertained our class with videos of Leonard Bernstein conducting West Side Story and clips from Apollo 13 to give us fascinating examples of crisis management. Norm Chambers imparted his expertise in the business world and emphasized the importance of accountability and responsibility. In addition to workshops, the Jenks class bonded over bowling and finished the year serving the elderly at Covenant House in Brighton.
