The international, comparative, and sub-national politics of energy and climate policies & measures; the politics of the US foreign policy making process & US policy toward the Middle East; energy, resources, security & American foreign policy; the foreign & domestic politicaleconomic policies of authoritarian states; theory of individual political leadership at national & international levels; the monitoring and enforcement of international treaty systems
Professor Deese researches the international and comparative politics of energy and climate policies worldwide; the role of reputation and political leadership in international politics; the political economy of international trade; and the interaction of economics and security in US foreign policy. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Yale University and a United States Fulbright Specialist Scholar.
He is the author of The International Political Economy of Trade; Globalization: Causes and Effects; and World Trade Politics: Power, Principles, and Leadership.
He teaches graduate courses on global public goods, the design and roles of institutions in international politics, and undergraduate courses on international political economy, ideas, values, and American foreign policy, and the international, comparative, and US politics of energy and climate policy.
