The Praxis Summer Program is a free, self-guided summer career program designed to help you recognize and develop the skills most highly sought after by employers. This week-by-week guide will help you reflect on and strengthen these skills in order to give you a competitive advantage when applying to jobs and graduate schools in the future.

Available via Canvas, Praxis is designed to be completed on your own schedule at your own pace. Each module involves a learning component through LinkedIn Learning and a reflective activity. In addition, there is a checklist of other career development activities to complete by the end of the summer.Ìý

Week by Week Schedule

Module 1

Professionalism

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate their own strengths and areas for growth with respect to professional character traits that employers value.
  • Describe the importance of networking and how to craft your elevator pitch.
  • Assess their own performance at work and identify what factors motivate them.
  • Develop personal and professional goals.
  • Create a career development plan that identifies the professional competencies they want to develop and charts a path to do so
Module 2

Career & Self Development

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
  • Reflect on a few key questions that will help them create a joyful life that aligns with who they are.
  • Articulate their own strengths and the value they can bring to a group, as well as areas for development.
  • Describe mindsets that will help set themselves up for success.
  • Establish, maintain, and leverage relationships with people who can help them professionally.
  • Develop plans and goals for their career, seek out opportunities to learn and grow professionally, and advocate for themselves along the way.
Module 3

Communication

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate their own communication strengths and areas for growth.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills that will enhance their overall communication with others.
  • Communicate effectively during times of change.
  • Create and deliver effective and engaging presentations.
Module 4

Equity & Inclusion

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Recognize and acknowledge their own biases.
  • Articulate theÌý importance of cross-cultural communication, empathy, and speaking up for themselves and others.
  • Describe what it takes to be a committed ally.
Module 5

Teamwork

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe why teamwork is important and how to leverage their strengths in a team.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills and how to hold themselves accountable.
  • Resolve conflicts within a team by using effective communication strategies.
  • Recognize and confront bias in teams.Ìý
Module 6

Technology

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Describe thee impact technology has on them.
  • Review technologies commonly used in their career cluster(s) of interest, how to use Handshake to maximize your job or internship search, and how to optimize LinkedIn to attract recruiters.
  • Articulate how to use technology ethically and efficiently in service to others.
Module 7

Leadership

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Articulate what it takes to be a leader and the foundations of leadership.
  • Describe different leadership styles and their own style of leadership.
  • Motivate themselves and others while managing and leading a project.
Module 8

Critical Thinking

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Identify problems, explore tactics to remedy potential challenges, and examine the power of decision-making.
  • Expand their knowledge of analytical methods.
  • Embrace the power of curiosity.
Module 9

Service to Others

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Reflect on who the world needs them to be, keeping an eye toward justice.
