Options Through Education Program
The Options Through Education Transitional Summer Program at Boston College is coordinated by the Office of AHANA Student Programs office. The mission of this program is to prepare a select group of diverse students for the transition from high school to college. In the summer of 2012, a series of Science Exploratory Workshops was added to the curriculum. For one of these workshops, students performed a chemistry experiment in the Merkert teaching laboratories.
Under the supervision of Professor Lynne O’Connell, students used spectrophotometers interfaced to computers to determine the percentage of cranberry juice that is present in cranberry-apple juice. In other workshops, groups of student researchers and science professionals were assembled, and these panels presented students with a variety of options for pursuing a career in science.
